Good news for those of us rooting for a childrens playground near the Ferry Building. You may have seen Tuesday’s article in the Chronicle. Since then, we have focused on some concrete space just south of the grassy space that has potential to be a playground space. Neighborhood leaders from the South Beach/Rincon/Mission Bay Neighborhood Association (on which I am an elected Board member) and the Barbary Coast Neighborhood Association met with Phil Ginsburg of Rec. and Parks yesterday to talk about the need for a childrens playground near the Ferry Building, and they left with some action steps. Stay tuned for opportunities to get involved!!

FYI, none of the neighborhood groups are opposing the bocce ball courts. IN the case of myself making noise about the bocce ball courts, I made noise because there was zero public outreach to those of us living south of market about the proposed change in use of the park space. Rec. and Parks answered that criticism by sending Lev Kushner to a Rincon Hill neighborhood meeting on Tuesday, 8/24 to talk with us about the bocce ball courts proposal … and he also will be hosting a meeting on Tuesday, 9/7 at Pier 1′s Bayside Conference Room (inside the Port of SF offices) starting at 5:30pm to provide a second outreach opportunity for folks to attend.
